Prevent Blindness Elects Three New Members to National Board of Directors
Andrew Alcorn, Dr. Chad Overman and Dr. R. Tracy Williams Join National Organization to Help Save Sight

CHICAGO (Nov. 10, 2014) – Prevent Blindness, the nation’s oldest volunteer eye health and safety organization, has announced that Andrew Alcorn, president and CEO of Block Vision, Dr. Chad Overman, director of professional relations – Health and Wellness US at Walmart, and Dr. R. Tracy Williams, executive director of the Spectrios Institute for Low Vision, have been elected to the Prevent Blindness Board of Directors. The vote was held on November 8 at its 2014 Annual Board Meeting in Chicago.
Block Vision provides wellness vision and eye health benefits management services including eye examinations, corrective eyewear, primary eye care and comprehensive medical-surgical eye care management. Alcorn’s primary responsibility at Block Vision is overseeing the health plan business. He is also chairman of the National Association of Specialty Healthcare and has a bachelor’s and law degree from Seton Hall University.
As the Director of Professional Relations – Health and Wellness US at Walmart, Dr. Overman is the liaison to more than 10 percent of practicing optometrists in the United States. A year after joining Walmart in 1995 as an independent optometrist, he was named Walmart’s Optometrist of the Year in recognition of his patient care and vision of building his optometric practice. He later joined the corporate team as a regional talent specialist. Today, his duties are to provide overall direction and enhancement of Health and Wellness professional relations and strategic partnerships with industry stakeholders. Dr. Overman attended Iowa State University and received his Doctorate of Optometry from Southern College of Optometry in 1995.
Dr. Williams serves as the Executive Director of the Spectrios Institute for Low Vision in Wheaton, Ill. The group provides a variety of services including clinical low vision examinations, counseling and teaching the skills of daily living using low vision aids and technology. He served as chair of the American Optometric Association Low Vision Rehabilitation Section from 2005-2007, co-chair of the National Eye Institute/National Eye Health Education Program Low Vision Subcommittee from 2002-2008 and has served as chair of the National Accreditation Council for Agencies Serving the Blind and Visually Impaired since 2008. He is also the team eye doctor for the Chicago White Sox and the Chicago Bulls.
