Light the Night for Sight Raises $15,000 to benefit Children’s Vision Care

The Light the Night for Sight Walkathon presented by Prevent Blindness Tennessee raised $15,000 to benefit programs that provide eye health information and access to vision care for children. More than 70 walkers participated in the event held on October 28 at Centennial Park in Nashville.

Participants dressed in Halloween costumes and trick-or-treated while walking along the one-mile loop. Walkers from Tennessee Retina collectively raised more than $1,700 and received the gold trophy as the top corporate team fundraiser.

“Vision problems can affect a child’s ability to learn and reach his or her full potential,” said Jennifer Gamble, CEO of Prevent Blindness Tennessee. “Prevent Blindness Tennessee’s program offers vision screenings to school children to identify undetected vision problems that may impair learning, and connects needy children with eye care professionals to receive an eye exam and glasses. The money raised from Light the Night for Sight will help in our efforts to increase awareness of eye health and improve access to vision care for economically disadvantaged children at risk of losing their sight.”
