Prevent Blindness expresses our deep concern and disappointment with the passage of legislation to cut spending from the Medicaid program and eliminate access to health care coverage for millions of Americans. The U.S. House of Representatives, which passed this legislation on a vote of 215 to 214, has sent the bill to the U.S. Senate for consideration. This legislation includes provisions that are estimated to cause around 14 million Americans to lose coverage under traditional Medicaid and state-expanded Medicaid programs provided under the Affordable Care Act. If these policies are enacted, many Americans across the age spectrum—from children who need early detection of potential vision problems to adults who live with vision loss or blindness and older Americans with chronic sight-threatening disease—stand to lose access to vision and eye health services that can enable to them live productive, engaging, and independent lives. We call on the U.S. Senate to work together to toward policies that invest—not divest—in our national health care and strengthen our national health care system for the betterment of all.
Contact Congress and urge the to protect vision and eye health.
